Huge stash buster!

scrap afghan

This is what I have been working on and has been a giant time suck,I couldn't take myself away from it, but has also taken up a couple thousand yards of stash. The brown in between color rows took up almost 3 super saver skeins that are 364 yards each.It is big enough to cover the top of our queen sized bed. All of the color rows are scrap balls so I don't know how many yards in all.The yarn I made this out of filled up a laundry basket. I still have well over 1/2 left over.

I'm giving this afghan to my friend Marci. It was her birthday on April 9 so I'm a little late. She was born a hippy, she will love this!

I have started another scrap afghan ,left overs from the other blanket, making panels and when there done I'll be crocheting them together. :)
I don't know who I'll gift the next one to. I'm trying to clear out to get some more room in here!!!

I started a baby sweater on size 1's with baby ull in pale purple and pink with white ribbing. It is so tiny and cute! I found out another girl at work is pregnant so add her to the list of 4+ people who are expecting that I know.

I worked on the c-2-c blanket today. I finished the last skein of yellow. 1 more green and it will be time to work an edging. I think a baby sweater and blanket for each is good. Maybe a pair of baby socks. Or a hat. I love babies!

Dear Cranky old lady,

I do not give a rats ass that you waited 17 minutes (more like 10) on the phone today while I had a line out to soft lines before I could get to you. I don't care if you want to "Give me a talking to" when you come in for your $4.80 that you were overcharged on your reduced bakery items. For the record I'm not a "Young lady" you bitch and you can shove those cinnamon rolls up your ass. I hope you choke on them.

Sincerely,
Your Customer Service Representative

So you don't have stuff

This title is inspired by my brother in law Greg that I was talking with on Monday night. Me in reference to some fabric I had found in my stash: "I have so much stuff I don't know what I have anymore." Greg in rebuttal: "So you don't have stuff, you have shit" Me: "Basically".

I have been cleaning out my fabric, finding the stuff I've forgotten and cutting it up for my sister for her birthday because she loves to sew, but doesn't have the time to cut up all the squares.A lot of this stuff I still like, but not love enough to keep in the stash.I found the fabric I was collecting for a double wedding ring quilt.I really want to go to the fabric store next week, but I think I'll put it off for another week, and if I'm good I'll get to go. It's almost an hour drive to the good quilt shop (the one that doesn't think all young people are evil) so it has to be a pay week. There's a yarn shop on the way and they have some cool sock yarn I want to try.I need to cut up a few more yards tonight and tomorrow. I'm trying to keep the fabric stash confined to it's tote,it's overflowing a bit right now. Must beat it back!

I'm 2/3 of the way done with my scrap afghan. Not nearly enough yarn is gone. :(
I'll be doing at least 3 more of these hopefully this year. I have started a tessellating fish afghan for my nephew for Christmas '08. His favorite color is orange, so this blanket is orange and yellow goldfish! I had to buy the yarn $20 on 10 skeins of bernat softee chunky. I will need more yellow. I think I'll get 3 fish out of one skein. I've knit 2, they take about 45 minutes each.

I received the elusive Trekking color 100 that I have been wanting for 3 years now.

I also received some pencil roving and some lace weight that SMELLS SO GOOD!!!

I have been playing with the Dots blanket pattern in the newest spring Interweave Crochet.

I completed a dishcloth yesterday at the laundromat and started another.

The corner to corner blanket is banished to the corner for being boring. Not the blankets fault. I just need to get some good movies going.

I have been experimenting with dying yarn with easter egg dye. I've done 2 skeins and they have turned out well. I'm knitting a scarf with them alternating skeins and it looks awesome.

I haven't touched the sock since I blogged last.

I think I'm going to knit another fish...

What I'm acually going to do:

Knit another burp cloth.
finish the c-2-c baby blanket
use 2 skeins from the stash
10 squares for one of my afghans

The c-2-c blanket itself is going to take forever!
I've also started a garter stitch afghan out of old stash acrylic, not sure if it will be panels or log-cabin-esque.

Adding a few more things

I realize today, that I may have made it a bit to easy on my self last night.Last night I ripped the ripple, and crochet 10 squares for my cotton granny. The burp cloth is less than 5" from completion. That only leaves 2 things left, both could be finished within the week. The point is for it to last for 3 weeks until the next pay check comes around.
So I add (complete list) :
Finish current socks,I'm on the foot of the first one.
Make 2 somethings off my ravelry queue.
Make 10 more squares for one of my afghans.
Knit another burp cloth.
Cast on for Sprout, an Amy King design in stashed cotton ease.
finish the 1/2 finished c-2-c baby blanket
knit 4 washcloths

I'm back to trying to pair down the cotton stash. Soon it will be summer and small things will take over the big. So I'll be trying to knit one wash cloth a week again. The burp clothes are being knit from a cone of peaches 'n cream. I think I can get at least 3 out of the cone. Then maybe I'll pair up some of my solids and make some stripy cloths, because knitting plain dish cloths boars me to tears, and I don't know why knowing this I bought them anyway.I have a cone of ecru, and about 6 skeins of different solids, so that's a lot of burp cloths!I like the pattern because it's simple enough to do while reading, watching tv etc. but interesting enough to not make you want to throw it in the river if your knitting it just to be knitting.
It is really nice out today, I have the screen door open for the first time in months airing out the apartment. I got my laundry done for the week, had a latte and knit on my socks waiting at the laundromat watching the price of gas go up. It is now $3.27 per gallon. Glad I filled up yesterday at $3.23 . :(
The hubby and I have been car pooling, thank god we work at the same place and relatively the same hours or we would be very broke. Hence my wip/stash obsession until I can buy new yarn. That and I get my yearly raise starting April 2nd, so I really want to treat myself with that first check and not feel guilty about it.
After I finish my list I figure I've used approximately $60 worth of yarn, so I can spend that much, maybe. I'm hoping to way over shoot my goal. After all I do have 3 weeks and a lot of those projects only take a day or so...

So tired!

But I do have progress! I have knit almost half a corner to corner baby blanket using lion brand cupcake in lemon drop and pistachio. I also exchanged some yarn today to make a miter blanket for the couch. I'll need tons more, but 10 skeins will give me a good start. I'm using bazic wool in 10 colors. I have also knit more than half of a baby genius burp cloth. I should finish that tomorrow...
I have plenty of progress, but no FO's. Maybe next week. I did really good for about a week knitting on the c-2-c faithfully, as well as my sock (currently on the gusset), then I started the BGBC, and all hell broke loose, and I haven't touched it in a few days now.
I want to order some of the new colors of sock yarn from Knit Picks, like 5 of them.
First I MUST:
Finish c-2-c blanket
finish burp cloth
crochet 10 more squares for one of my blankets.
knit 4 more dish cloths.
rip the cotton ripple

There, 5 goals for 10 skeins of yarn, that's not to unreasonable to do before ordering new yarn. And it will give me time to save the money needed in like 2 paychecks. No ramen for me!

all that goes on

I was so busy this weekend, I hardly knit a stitch on monday, tuesday I hit it hard finishing those 2 projects, today I had an appointment, but thankfully it brought me close to a yarn store to pick up the dpns for my sleeves on the malabrigo sweater. In this adventure of making up a seam less sweater, I have discovered that 2 circs are NOT for me.It's starting to get nice here and I swear if it kills me I will wear it before summer hits.
I've knit about 6" on the first sleeve, and will continue to knit it exclusively at home until it's finished.
I'm on the toe of the sock. I will finish it tomorrow at work. Simply because the sweater is way to huge to take anywhere, except to haul up on my lap to work on.
I bought some real nice hand dyed sock yarn there. I should shop there more, they have some great indie yarn that is FABULAS!
My aunt gave me a sweaters worth of Kona bay knitting yarn 75% acrylic,15%alpaca,10% nylon.I'm going to make Thermal from knitty once I've finished the malabrigo sweater. It is a pretty grape color.I love it!

Finished!

Finished the acrylic hoodie, ran out of yarn for the hood, so it's a not-so-hoodie, still looks cool and is totally wearable.
Photobucket

Also finished is this quickie scarf for a friend. I felt like knitting with broom sticks and rope IE size 17 needles and bulky yarn. This was just the ticket!

I got an e-mail, the order has shipped, I'm 20 rows from the toe. Will I make it? Only time will tell!

Beat Sheri

I placed an order with the Loopy Ewe tonight. 2 Sekina needles superwash merino rovings, and a couple pairs worth of sock yarn and some needle protectors. $76 total.
So heres the challenge, finish these socks:

cherry coke socks

Before my order gets here! Can my socks beat Sheri to the post office?
Will I get distracted by the malabrigo that just came in today to finish my sweater?
Will I stop and make millions of yo-yos until my fingers bleed from some awesome scraps sent to me by Sugarmagknowya ?
Only time will tell...

Reset the clock

I reset for 100 days because I want a fresh start. This is not a hard 100 days, IE it can change at any time.
I purchased 4 skeins on malabrigo today. That will be my last purchase for at least a month. I want to finish the sweater I bought yarn for tonight (I just cast it on), my socks (1 sock to go) and that denim baby jacket I got yarn for about 2 years ago?? Longer? Maybe? I started the sleeve last night.
I just feel guilty, because I want more and I just can't afford it. So if I use what I have maybe I'll feel better later and be able to justify an afghans worth later this year.
I finished those 2 things yesterday. As well as that ever lovin' cotton baby blanket a week or so ago. I'm still waiting on the yarn for the rest of my first malabrigo sweater.Once that is done and I can wear it I'll feel a lot better.
I started a child's hoodie out of stash yarn and I have the back completed.
I also want to crochet a blanket with some good will cotton I picked up last summer to clean out that tote. I want to simplify and stream line my yarn to what I actually want to knit and not just because it was on sale or cheep.
Some days I look at my yarn and think "Am I going to be able to knit all this, and do I really want to?". Yes I do. I really do. I have plans for most of my yarn. Very little doesn't have a project pegged. It's just a matter of getting to it, and that means working my way threw the stash. Making those long awaited projects come to life and enjoy them and not just the idea of them.Fighting off Startitis while going threw the stash will be hard.Tomten was the last thing off the needles from last falls bout and I really hate cleaning up after it.Although I fear it's already started.
Projects in the works right now are my new malabrigo sweater, the acrylic hoodie, the lace scarf, the socks and the denim baby jacket. The log cabin blanket and babette get worked on in spurts,as well as the dish cloths and the left over cotton blanket. I want to start Serenity in lake cotton ease I have in my stash but I will wait until the acrylic hoodie is finished.I need to see if I have the correct needles for Serenity.

Knitting superstitions!

Did you know about these knitting superstitions:
1.It's bad luck to leave a project unfinished. The intended recepient will get bad luck from the unfinished item.
2.Stabbing your needles though your yarn balls brings bad luck to anyone who wears something made from that yarn.

3.Don't knit a pair of socks for your boyfriend or he'll walk away from you. He'll walk away but will he walk back? It might be an effective way to rid yourself of a pest.

4.If you knit one of your own hairs into a garment, it will bind the recipient to you.

5.Knitting for children you may have in the future, but before you are pregnant, is bad luck (it may prevent one from getting pregnant, or bring ill health to the baby).

6.Don't stop knitting when you are only on the cast-on row, or the project will never be finished. At least now I have something to blame all those UFO's on

7.Cast-on for your next project immediately after finishing one. It's bad luck for your needles to be empty. No problem there

8.When knitting a pair of socks, the second sock must be started immediately after casting off the first and finishing the first must be postponed until the knitter has time to cast-off, and cast-on the next sock at the same sitting.

9.Knitting as a voodoo doll -- ripping out your knitting while picturing someone you don't like is a way to "hex" them.

10. Never HAND knitting needles to a friend, they can stab the friendship. Put them down and let the friend pick them up. How many of us are guilty of stabbing a friend? At least now we know.
